Edgar Hernandez

Edgar Hernandez is a seasoned medical social worker with more than 12 years of experience across diverse clinical environments, including outpatient clinics, mental health facilities, and acute-care hospitals. Since 2021, he has served as a faculty member in the Master of Social Work Program at the University of the Pacific, while concurrently pursuing his doctoral degree at Pacific’s Benerd School of Education.

A native of Southern California, Mr. Hernandez earned dual graduate degrees—a Master of Public Health and a Master of Social Work—from the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. His professional practice has centered largely on critical care, with extensive experience in intensive care, medical-surgical, telemetry, neonatal intensive care, and hospice settings, primarily through Kaiser Permanente.

Beyond critical care, Mr. Hernandez has supported patient-centered case management initiatives, provided trauma-informed care in emergency departments, and offered social work services in outpatient clinical settings. He has contributed to UC Davis’ Early Detection and Prevention of Prodromal Psychosis program and previously held a hospital social work role with Sutter Health.

Outside of his professional commitments, Mr. Hernandez enjoys spending time with his children. Together, they share a passion for classic cars and often travel throughout California to explore the state’s rich cultural and historical landscape.

Currently a third-year doctoral student, Mr. Hernandez’s research focuses on mental health, health education, and inequities affecting undocumented Latino/a students in higher education.
