Nursing Leaders and Partners Tackle Pipeline Challenges

Updated: Jul 7

With over 1,000 projected openings per year in San Joaquin County alone, nursing pathway occupations pose the greatest challenges for the area's healthcare employers.

To address these challenges, the Healthcare Pathways Team - a working group of nursing leaders, educators, and workforce development practitioners - is meeting to develop strategies to expand the talent pipeline and increase employment opportunities for community residents.

The team has identified problems and investigated their causes for the following nursing pathway occupations:

  • Registered Nurse

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse

  • Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Home Health Aide

  • Medical Assistant

  • Psychiatric Technician

The group is now investigating promising strategies that have been piloted elsewhere and will develop draft recommendations for the partnership's Executives Council to review at its April 23 meeting.
